Log cabin "Courthouse Steps" pattern crib quilt; Mennonite, from Lloyd Weaver family, Strasburg, PA, c. 1880; Mint condition. Red calico binding, beautifully handcut and pieced logs 0.5" to 6"wide and 0.5" tall; mint condition: crisp, direct from Weaver family; Mennonite crib quilts from this period are very rare. Three colorful 6" diamonds, two vertical brown/black calico print logs alternate with solid brown ones; horizontal logs: bold colors of yellow/pink calico print logs alternate.

c 1890 Berks County, PA; Eleven hand pieced bars: yellow calico print in center, then double pink calico bars, brown and white floral stripe; double pink calicos, yellow calico and green calico print bars on sides; 5" red calico border; pieced in tiny hand stitches, 5-6 stitches per inch quilting; concentric zig-zags over body of quilt; excellent, crisp, never used; collector quality. This traditional Mennonite design, graphic and striking in its simplicity, calls to mind the straight furrows of a fallow field.
